The RetroN 5 doesn’t take nostalgic gaming lightly

There are some games which will always stick out in our minds from older gaming systems. Maybe it’s for a simple reason like being a popular game when you were young, or maybe it was something almost no one has heard of, but holds a special place in your heart. Whenever you want to pull out those old systems and take a stroll down memory lane, you might be a bit disappointed in the translation of how you remembered it versus how it actually is.

We looked at the Super RetroTrio last week, which would give you three consoles in one. It had a modern take, but let us use our old favorites. Of course, the world just wouldn’t be right if there wasn’t a bigger and better version out there. The RetroN 5 will work with NES, Famicom, SNES, Super Famicom, Genesis, Mega Drive, Game Boy, Game Boy Color, and Game Boy Advance games. It has an HDMI port with a max output at 720p, supporting 60 fps.

This has an on-screen interface that is very easy to use. You can choose whether you have crisp HD resolution, or the pixelated goodness you remember. Game Genie was built into this, so it can give you a leg up if you’re a little rusty. It comes with a wireless (or wired if you prefer) controller that will give you a D-pad, shoulder triggers, start/select buttons, 4 macro buttons, and 8 controller buttons. You can remap these to whatever your preferences are, and 4 blue LED buttons will tell you how much battery you have left before you need to recharge. Of course, if you still have the original controllers, there are 6 ports for you to plug into, one for each system. You will be able to save or load your game at any point, with 10 save slots for each game. This system and one controller will cost you around $140.
