Kempler and Strauss launches the W PhoneWatch

by Mark R

w_phonewatchI’m not certain how the sales of the LG G910 watch phone are doing, but Kempler & Strauss have come up with their own version of digital wrist communication with the W PhoneWatch.

The W PhoneWatch comes with a Kempler & Strauss Communicator headset, which you can see in the photo to the right of the watch. This headset syncs with the watch via Bluetooth, so you don’t have to talk to your wrist. I suppose you don’t have to use it, but only if you want to imitate Dick Tracy or Michael Knight.

Kempler & Strauss have said that the W PhoneWatch is the world’s smallest full-function quad-band GSM cellphone watch. It has a 1.5 touchscreen interface that does not require a stylus, but allows operation with the user’s fingers. That sounds a little hard to believe, considering how fat most people’s fingers are. However, if the iPhone can make a touchscreen keypad, then I’m willing to take Kempler & Strauss at their word.

Other features of the W PhoneWatch include a digital camera that can shoot 640 x 480 stills or 128 x 104 videos. You can see the camera lens on the wrist strap if you look closely. What you can’t see is the slot for the MicroSD. As for the battery life, it is good for about 100 hours of standby, 150 minutes of talk time, and 150 minutes of MP3 playback.

So far, there is no word when the W PhoneWatch when it will be available, but the price will be for about $199.
