  • Sprint with plans to unlock its phones

An unexpected move made by one of the big US cellphone carriers – Sprint – is the possible plan to unlock its phones so customers can use them with other networks. At the moment, the buy-a-cellphone scene with carriers in mind is pretty valuable because devices are much cheaper that way, but the scenario can change if Sprint decides so.

Sadly, there is a trick in this announcement made by Sprint – since they use a technology named CDMA, it means that the phones getting unlocked must support this technology in order to be used in other networks.

For example, there are 2 popular carriers that don’t use CDMA, which are AT&T and T-Mobile, so it isn’t worth unlocking the “Sprint” cellphone if you are going for one of those 2.

  • The Future of eBooks

Real life book publisher companies are realizing that text & digital format is the way to go on the future, and that is why Hachette Book Group USA will release their bestselling content via the eBook format called .epub.

Some numbers about eBooks on the US:

– $4 million digital book were sold during the second quarter of 2006
– $8.1 million eBooks were bought within the same time frame, during 2007

As you can see, the numbers are drastically rising, and that should continue for the coming years.

  • Tokyo Motor Auto Show 2007

Everything that is vehicle related, has a motor, and looks good, deserves a place at the Tokyo Motor Auto Show. With that being said, there is a cool photo gallery at CNet with some models that will be presented at the show – my favorite is the motorcycle concept from Honda called EVO6 Automatic Sports Cruiser.

There are several types of cell technologies used in the U.S. Sprint, Alltell, Verizon, and U.S. Cellular use CDMA. The article makes it sound like sprint is the only CDMA carrier around. Most likely if a person is going to unlock a CDMA phone they will be moving to another CDMA carrier.
