Bypass airport security lines with Clear

Clear card
Getting through airport security is becoming more and more of a hassle. Clearly, security has to be the #1 concern, but waiting for hours can really bring out the worst in a person. All the people like that, you know, the ones who are ready to explode after an hour or so in line, are perfect for Clear, which is essentially a “fast lane” for airport security.

Clear isn’t available at all airports yet, in fact, it’s a lot easier to list the ones Clear is at:

  • Cincinnati/Northern Kentucky (CVG)
  • Indianapolis (IND)
  • New York JFK Terminal 7 (JFK)
  • Orlando (MCO)
  • San José (SJC)

When you sign up for Clear, you’ll be handing over all sorts of data about yourself to them; pretty much anything they want you’ll give. Once Clear determines you’re not a crazy terrorist, you get that cool looking card you see in the picture. This card stores templates of your fingerprint and iris images, plus a photo.

Once your at the airport, there’ll be a special Clear lane where a Clear rep will greet you. Here you’ll need a photo ID, a finger print/iris scan, and your Clear card. If everything checks out, a TSA rep will let you be on your way. While you bypass the line, you won’t be able to sneak anything on that you shouldn’t have. You’ll still need to put your bags and other items through the X-ray machine and put yourself through the metal detector. Still, it’s all worth it when you get to look back at all the people waiting in line.

Obviously, Clear isn’t going to go around handing this service out for free. You’ll have to fork of $100/year for the privilege of having an amount of personal information on a little, clear card. Oh, you get to bypass security lines as well, but who cares about that?

With Clear you are guaranteed to get through security in about 5 minutes. I can get to the airport 35 minutes before take off for my weekly commute. Other than that, its nothing too shmancy. I think you can get an extra month on your new clear membership by using my referral number DSCAM1134699. Its also at a lot more airports now since this article was written.

I joined Clear Pass and must say that after using it several times at different airports I am MORE THAN THRILLED about the time that it has saved me virtually every time I used it! I found the attendants at the Clear Pass lanes were cheerful and helpful (probably because the work load is way light — there was NEVER anyone else on the clear pass line!) and helped me through security quickly. I felt like a rock star going to the head of the line EVERY TIME with the Clear Pass attendants carrying my bags and smiling all the way. One flight I had that was in a way overcrowded airport with regular line out the door, saved me at least an hour by using the Clear Pass. I recommend Clear Pass to anyone who has little patience to wait in a line that inches along and would rather sit at the gate relaxing. If you use my Referral Code: SCA20888 when you sign up for the Clear Pass – both you and I will get a FREE MONTH! Thanks and good luck to you!

Looks interesting! One question for those of you currently using Clear: if you are a business traveler, say Platinum level, and usually fly first or business class, will this expedite the security wait times even more? The security lines for first and business classes aren’t normally slammed like the general security checkpoint lanes. I’m just wondering if it truly is worth the $100 bucks.

Thanks for your input!
