Snappy Face Recognizer

Snappy Face Recognizer
Instead of getting yourself a fingerprint scanner, which can often be fooled by ordinary Play-Doh, get yourself a bit more security, maybe the Snappy Face Recognizer? I think so.

It looks like an ordinary webcam, but actually uses advanced facial recognition technology to detect your face and then either log you in, or give you an error message.

One of my first thoughts was that this thing may actually work, but would take a minute just to authencate, but it’s supposedly pretty speedy.

You can be confident in your security, too, the 1.3 megapixel camera will take detailed shots of your beautiful head. The actual resolution is 1280 x 1024 (pixels), and the video is 640 x 480 pixels.

From the looks of it, this device also works as any standard webcam, so you could technically use it for videoconferencing or just taking the odd picture of yourself.

All the software you need to secure yourself is included, and the device itself is fairly portable, so traveling with it should be no problem. All you need is a USB 2.0 port to connect it to your computer and you’re set.

Even if this thing worked one out of ten times, it would still be cool to have for the one time it worked. Just sitting in front of my computer and having it login, or deny me entry because my hairs longer or I don’t have that perfect angle is well worth the 50 pounds (~$95) this will cost you. The question I have is does this thing support Password storage. Eg can I use it to log in to a website using this in Firefox instead of having to type it out. Its a bit pricey for a novelty in my opinion. I think I will stick with my fingerprint scanner for now.
